First and foremost today is my birthday and I'm not ashamed to say I'm 45, older than some, but much younger than others! Which leads to my first story.

As most people know Mike and I tend to be somewhat of a bit of pranksters, this story starts back in October when our good friend Gail was turning 50. Everyone knows you have to do something special for a person's 50 birthday and I was racking my brain for a couple of months trying to come up with something fun, but not too mean. Well, I decided to send her 50 cards for her birthday. I checked out the card section in every store I went to, to find birthday cards that talked about getting older. I had everyone I knew (except Gail of course) sign the cards with names like Ethel, Elmer, Beatrice, etc. Then about a week before her birthday, I started sending 8-10 cards a day. It didn't take Gail long to figure out who sent the cards. Finally, by the day of her birthday, she had received 68 cards (I had asked other people to send some too). I bet the mailman loved her! Then on the day of her birthday day she woke up to this in her yard!
For some reason, Gail seemed to think she need to get me back! Friday at work, I saw a little old man walk by one of the office windows with flowers and a balloon that said "Oh, NO, the Big 50!" Of course all of the women in the office were wondering who was turning 50! So we all traipse up the front waiting for the little old man to come in, all of us trying to figure out who it could be. When he gets in, we ask who they're for and he's says Lori! I immediately say it can't be me, I'm not 50! He looks at me like, sure you're not. Needless to say, all day, people came by asking me if I'm 50. So Gail got her revenge, but little does she know, I already have figured out how to get her next, but she won't know when it will hit her!

Now on to the kids....

Paige played her first softball games with Free State High School. There was a small scandal with the several of the varsity girls getting caught drinking, so they had to sit the first two games (they play double headers). Four JV girls got brought up to play Varisty and Paige was one of them. Of course they got clobbered, but they were playing a really good team. And in the JV girl's defense, they found out about 1 1/2 hours before the games that they were playing varsity, so they were pretty nervous. Paige played third, she missed the first two that came to her, but after she settled down she made some great plays. In the two games, only 3 or 4 girls got hits, and Paige was one of them, so I think she left a good impression with the varsity coach. It was very cold that day and Paige forgot her under armour. Fortunately, there was a store nearby and I was able to get her some for the next game.
Paige is playing third and one of her best friends, Christy is pitching.

Last week when they played, she got to go back to JV and they did well, they lost the first game 15-7, they had one bad inning and let the other team score all 15 in one inning. They came back and scored 7, but it just wasn't enough. They won the 2nd game 16-7, they all played really well. One girl even hit 2 home runs! For the night Paige had one strike out, 3 singles, and 1 triple. The first game, Paige played second and center field. For second game she caught.

Abby took 3rd place in the javelin at her last meet. Her coach says she's really improving and it looks like she'll be on varsity. She just got actual javelin shoes, which will of course help her throw even farther! At least that's what she wants me to believe.

David and Abby just got back from their band trip to Winter Park, Colorado. It sounds like they had a great time. The band competed in a contest out there and did well, they won several awards. But of course the kids went more for the skiing. They spent almost two whole days skiing. Only one kid got hurt, he broke two bones in his leg :(, I talked with his mom and she said he was doing fine, that it didn't hurt that much. David and Abby actually spent most of yesterday skiing together. Sometimes they can't stand each other, but it sounds like they enjoyed hanging out together, they were both telling stories and laughing tonight. I think they had fun, but are happy to be back.

Haley doesn't really have any news, except she has a new boyfriend. His name is Rodney. Since she's in the 8th grade, this relationship will probably last all of a week or two. Next time I write, she'll probably have moved on!

I know this blog is getting long, but I have one more thing...The Kansas Jayhawks beat North Carolina last night!!!! For those of you who aren't college basketball fans, this probably means nothing to you, but around here its huge! The whole town went crazy last night. Go to www.ljworld.com to read all about it. Monday night we play Memphis for the National Championship.

Please feel free to leave comments, I love hearing from everyone!

Happy Easter

Happy Easter!!!!!!!!

We're having a quiet day until this afternoon then we're going over to Mary's for dinner. Kim and Kirk are coming down and Gail, Bob, Lindsay and Rachel are coming too.

Paige and Haley were extremely disappointed last year when we didn't color eggs andI didn't plan an Easter egg hunt. So this year, we colored eggs! David and Abby weren't interested.

Anyway, we're having a hunt at Mary's house before Easter Dinner. I'm not sure David, Abby or Lindsay will be too interested, but I guess if they want the candy and other treats, they'll hunt for their eggs! I know Paige, Haley and Rachel are looking forward to it.

This last week was Spring Break for the kids. David and Abby drove up to Kim and Kirk's Wednesday night and spent some quality time with their aunt and uncle. They went to Union Station to see the Body Revealed exhibit. It's real bodies with the skin stripped away and it shows all the organs, veins, etc. I haven't had a chance to find out if they liked it or if it grossed them out! Paige and Haley spent the week hanging out with friends and to hear them, they spent most of the week cleaning! According to them, it's not fair because David and Abby didn't have to clean because they were gone. Oh, sometimes life is just not fair.

More Wii

We taught Mike's mom, Mary how to bowl on Wii tonight. It didn't take long at all and she was a pro! She almost beat Mike, he got a 138 and she got 119! I only got an 80 something my first time, so I figure she'll be scoring 300 before long. Mike and Paige are playing baseball right now, I think she's whipping his bottom.

Speaking of baseball, Paige is on the Free State High School Junior Varsity softball team, which is pretty amazing since she's a freshman and only 4 freshman made the team. They had a scrimmage against the "C" team tonight and killed them. The "C" team didn't even get an out on the JV. Paige hit every time at bat and got either doubles or triples. She said she could have had a home run, but the coach stopped her at third. Okay, I'll stop bragging now.

Abby is on the Free State track team and is going to sprint and throw javelin. This is her first year of track so it's all new to her. Her coaches tell her she's doing a great job. Her first meet is Thursday, but she doesn't want anyone to come since it's her first meet and she doesn't think she'll do well. I'll keep you posted.

Haley is the manager for the Central track team. She wanted to be manager because she didn't want to run, but the coach (who is also the volleyball coach) wants her to run anyway to stay in shape for volleyball. So, Haley will be running in practice and helping the coach at meets.

David and Abby are getting ready for the band trip to Winter Park, Colorado. They'll be gone from April 2 to April 6. They'll get to ski and the band will do a couple of performances while they're there. The only bad thing about the trip is that David will turn 18 on the 4th and his mommy won't be there :(. I think I'm much more upset about it than David is!

I'll try to post Abby's track and Paige's softball schedules for anyone who is interested in the next few days.

Wii!!!!!

Excitement in the Hanson household today! After calling 3 stores in town every day for the last couple of months, I finally found a Wii! The kids and I had decided it would be the perfect birthday gift for Mike, well, his birthday was Feb 25th and I still hadn't found one. Finally on Friday, a girl at Best Buy told me to check the sale ad on Sunday. Of course last night, David had three friends spend the night and they were up all hours and we had to "spring forward", so needless to say I didn't wake up nearly as early as I had planned. I woke up at 9am, drug myself to the computer (we don't get the paper), and checked Best Buy's ad and surprise!!!! they had Wiis! I ran upstairs, woke up Paige to see is she would ride with me. Abby woke up and decided to go to, she even drove, so Paige and I could hop out and get in line! We made it to Best Buy around 9:40 and there was already a line! The ad said each store would have at least 15 and we were 14th in line. After we had been in line several minutes, a Best buy employee came out and told us where we needed to go and what the procedure was for when the store opened. He also said they had at least 30, so I knew we were okay. Of course, you always have to get more games and accessories, so it was a rather expensive morning. Poor Mikey is working days and won't get to play until after 8 tonight, but maybe the kids will be ready for a break when he gets home. We got Tiger Woods Golf 2008 for Mike, he'll be a pro in no time, I'm sure! I'll try to take pictures tonight of him playing and post them in the next day or two.

Let's see how this works

Hey, I'm new at this and not sure what I'm doing, but I'll give it a try.
